Etienne Sauzet - Among The Most Sought-After White Burgundy |
|
|
|
Domaine Etienne Sauzet which situated in the middle of the Cote de Beaune is made up of 23 acres, much of it in the heart of the premier cru vineyards of world-renowned Puligny-Montrachet.
The estate has been bottling 100% of its production since the early 1950's. It now use approximately 20-25% new oak for their premier crus. The age of the vines ranges from 23-74 years and the fruits of Etienne Sauzet's wine reache a high degree of ripeness in these well-placed vineyards. M. Boudot is now responsible for running the domaine, he moderized and further improved the vinification, and follows biodynamic principles. Sauzet's Puligny Montrachet is very fresh on the palate with a crisp acidity but gently balanced by a slightly 'creamy' texture.
"This is one of the most serious estates in Burgundy. The wines are usually among the best made...They are textbook white burgundies, brimming with flavor, yet elegant and well-balanced." - Robert M. Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate |

"An expressive nose of very ripe yellow orchard fruit and acacia blossom aromas that also reflect mango and apricot nuances to the middle weight flavors blessed with ample dry extract that confers a textured mouth feel to the palate staining finish. This is quite ripe yet remains cool, balanced and refined." - Allen Meadow |

"A sexy note of reduction to the peach, hazelnut and nutmeg aromas. Rich, dense and deep, showing youthfully subdued white peach and mineral flavors. Finishes very long, very dry and broad, in need of time in bottle to reveal more personality..." - Stephen Tanzer |

HKD $1,100.00 |
"The 2012 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gain is very reserved and mineral-driven on the nose that appears to have closed up since bottling. The palate is citrus-fresh on the entry with well-integrated oak, just a slight honeyed note toward the hazelnut finish that lingers long in the mouth..." Neal Martin |

"Pure stone fruit aromas show the site´s proximity to the Meursault line. Sweet and pure, with nicely integrated acidity framing the concentrated citrus and white peach flavors. This tactile, chewy wine conveys lovely vivacity and a low-pH impression. This classic premier cru needs another three years in bottle to expand." - Stephen Tanzer

HKD $650.00 |
"Tasted blind at Farr Vintners Kumeu/White Burgundy tasting. The 2012 Puligny-Montrachet from Etienne Sauzet has a very pleasant reduction on the nose: real mineralité here, intense and convincing, the kind of aromatics that take you by the lapels and demand attention. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, fresh and complex with a lovely saline element toward the finish. For a village cru Burgundy this punches above its weight and is well worth seeking out." - Neal Martin

2012 Domaine Etienne Sauzet, Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru les Combettes
ST 94 |
HKD $1,700.00 |
"Subtle aromas of lemon, white peach and hazelnut. More tactile and concentrated than the Champ-Canet and showing more early fruit and personality but still with a rather tight framework for such a dense wine. This boasts grand cru weight and structure, not to mention length, and yet it already displays outstanding roundness. A great premier cru bottling." - Stephen Tanzer |
